TILDA Hosts Successful Data Workshop
TILDA’s 3rd Data Workshop Enhances Research Opportunities and Collaboration
On 16th May 2024, The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) successfully hosted its 3rd Data Workshop at Trinity College Dublin. This workshop continues TILDA’s commitment to providing researchers with a unique opportunity to engage deeply with TILDA data through in-person learning and hands-on experience.Highlights from the Workshop
- In-Depth Learning: The workshop featured a combination of short lectures and practical computer exercises, giving attendees comprehensive exposure to various versions of the TILDA dataset. Participants gained hands-on experience using statistical software such as Stata and SPSS.
- Expert Instruction: The course was taught by a team of senior researchers from TILDA, including:

- Dr Ann Monaghan, TILDA Project Manager, TCD
- Dr Siobhan Scarlett, TILDA Senior Data Manager, TCD

- Comprehensive Course Content: The workshop covered essential topics such as the background and design of the TILDA study, biomedical and cognitive data, data structure and naming conventions, generating reproducible research, summary statistics, survey weighting, and merging longitudinal data files.

The Data Workshop attracted a diverse group of participants, including TILDA collaborators, PhD students, and external researchers interested in working with large datasets. This diversity fostered rich discussions about data usage, best practices, and research methodologies.
