TILDA’s National Frailty Education Training 2024
Posted on 16 December 2024
TILDA has concluded its 2023–2024 Frailty Education Programme, with 151 healthcare professionals attending 17 education days throughout the year.
Participants from nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, pharmacy, speech and language therapy, and education engaged in inter-professional learning in small groups. In November, we welcomed National Professional Development Coordinators for General Practice Nurses and healthcare professionals from St Colmcille’s Hospital Loughlinstown to Trinity Central for training sessions.
This CPD-accredited programme, developed using TILDA’s longitudinal data, equips healthcare professionals to recognise and manage frailty early, improving outcomes for older adults in Ireland. Delivered in partnership with the National Clinical Programme for Older People, the programme translates TILDA research into clinical practice.
Participants of the training programme become "Frailty Champions," tasked with delivering education and advocating for better care for frail older adults nationwide. To date, over 4,000 nurses and 1,000 other healthcare professionals have been trained through a "train-the-trainer" model, amplifying its impact across Ireland’s healthcare system.
Congratulations to all involved, and special thanks to Mary O’Shea, Research Nurse Manager, and Dr Ann Monaghan, Project Manager and Physiotherapist, for their exceptional contributions this year!
