Dr Trevor Doherty

Trevor Doherty is a machine learning researcher who joined the TILDA team in February 2025.

Trevor obtained his PhD from Technological University Dublin, focusing on the application of machine learning to epigenomics in health and disease. His research involved developing DNA methylation-based predictive biomarkers to estimate telomere length, to discriminate oesophageal cancer and Barrett’s oesophagus, and to predict outcomes in inflammatory bowel diseases. This involved applying a wide range of feature selection and reduction approaches alongside machine learning and deep learning algorithms.

Trevor holds a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Physics and an MSc in Engineering Computation from Queen’s University Belfast. Following a period as a data scientist in the insurance industry, Trevor completed a Masters in Research, applying machine learning to prostate cancer detection.
