Mr Joseph Mc Donnell
Joseph is a Data Manager in TILDA. He joined the team in August 2021.
Joseph began working in TILDA after receiving a B.A. (Mod.) in Computer Science and Business from Trinity College, Dublin. He studied a wide array of subjects including networking, information management, strategic information systems, internet applications and human-computer interaction.He has since completed a course in Windows Server management and in 2025 received a Postgraduate Certificate in Cyber Security from Technological University Dublin. A significant portion of this course was comprised of hands-on practical tasks and assignments using virtual environments to simulate scenarios. Modules covered included:
- Network Security
- Malware Analysis
- Digital Forensics
Joseph oversees data protection training for both team members and external researchers, manages TILDA’s on-site server infrastructure (access control, auditing, security updates), is part of the TILDA Data Access Committee which reviews applications to access the data, and provides general IT support to the TILDA team.
Joseph manages the TILDA Hotdesks. This encompasses both the on-site TILDA Hotdesk facility and the secure trusted research environment, TILDA VISTA. He oversaw the launch of TILDA VISTA in 2025. He ensures that users accessing both systems have completed prerequisite GDPR training, and delivers training for using these platforms and handling the TILDA data. He ensures that the data on both systems is secure through security checks, maintaining access control, and auditing user activity. To ensure users do not remove personal data from the systems, Joseph manually reviews the files first and also trains other members of the TILDA team on how to do so thoroughly.
