Introducing the TILDA Connecting Generations Award: A New Opportunity for Students to Address Ageism and Ageing in Ireland

TILDA (The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing) is excited to announce the launch of the TILDA Connecting Generations Award, a new initiative inviting undergraduate and postgraduate students at Trinity College Dublin to explore themes of ageism, intergenerational connection, and the positive aspects of ageing through creative and reflective work.

Supported by Elliott and Cathy Maisie of The MASIE Learning Foundation and Broadway/Ireland Connection, this award offers a platform for students to challenge stereotypes and provide fresh perspectives on ageing in Ireland. The award is an opportunity to engage with critical conversations on ageing, fostering both creative and academic responses to age-related issues.

Award Categories:

  • Creative / Media Prize: Submit an original video, photograph, painting, or illustration addressing themes such as intergenerational connection, challenging stereotypes about ageing, and flourishing in later life.

  • Essay or Journalism Prize: Write a short essay or opinion piece reflecting on ageism, the challenges of ageing in Ireland, and solutions to combat ageism.

Prizes:

  • €500 for the winning entry in each category

  • Winning entries will be showcased at the TILDA Connecting Generations Event (date TBC) and may be featured on TILDA and Trinity College Dublin platforms.

Key Dates:

  • Submission Deadline: 1st July 2025

  • Showcase & Awards Event: Date TBC

This initiative not only provides students with the opportunity to share their voices on ageing but also allows them to contribute to research-inspired storytelling and engage with a growing community of changemakers.
