GAA and TILDA host ‘How to Age Well’ webinar featuring Mícheal Ó Muircheartaigh

Read more from the GAA press release here.

Before the COVID-19 crisis, TILDA and the Community and Health department, supported by the GAA’s respective County Health and Wellbeing Committees, delivered live seminars on ‘How to Age Well’ to thousands of people in counties across Longford, Mayo, Donegal, Cork, Limerick, Kerry, and Wexford. However, this event was taken online for the first time with the "How to Age Well" webinar in May 2020.

The How to Age Well wellbeing webinar was presented by the GAA’s Community and Health department during the COVID-19 emergency. Prof Rose Anne Kenny, Principal Investigator of TILDA contributed the latest key research from Wave 5 of the TILDA study.

The Covid-19 emergency has caused those planned for Louth, Galway, and Kildare to be postponed, but thanks to the wonders of technology, this live webinar broadcast on the Microsoft Teams platform will bring this valuable research and discussion into hundreds of homes across the 32 counties.

TILDA’s report, based on its fifth wave of data collection completed in 2018, provides a clear and informative picture of the social, financial, mental and physical state of Ireland’s ageing population before the pandemic dramatically impacted their lives. The report will serve as a useful resource for policymakers and planners tasked with identifying gaps and solutions to improve supports for older people following the unfolding of the crisis.
