Dr. Geeske Peeters

Dr Geeske Peeters joined TILDA as a Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) fellow in 2016. Her research interests are in understanding the interrelationship between lifestyle, physical and cognitive functioning and health outcomes, such as falls, arthritis and dementia, from a life course perspective. Her work informs the development of strategies to improve physical and cognitive functioning and prevent falls and dementia.

Prior to joining TILDA, Geeske worked as a senior research fellow at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne and as a research fellow at the Schools of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences and Public Health at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. In 2009, she received her doctorate after defending her thesis titled "Prevention of falling in older persons with a high risk of recurrent falling" at the EMGO Institute of the VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam. Geeske has degrees in Occupational Therapy (BA, Hogeschool Zuyd, Heerlen) Human Movement Science (MSc, VU University, Amsterdam) and Epidemiology (MSc, EMGO Institute, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam).

Current Research

  • The prevalence and risk factors of falls in middle-aged adults (STEP consortium).
  • The interrelationship of falls, fear of falling, and physical and cognitive functioning.
