Dr. Mark Canney is a nephrologist and health researcher in TILDA. Mark graduated from the Medical School of National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) in 2005 with an honours degree. He completed his basic medical training in Galway and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2008. After working as a nephrology registrar in Sydney for a year, Mark returned to Ireland in 2010 to pursue higher specialist training in both nephrology and general internal medicine.
Mark joined the TILDA research team in 2014 having been awarded a HRB Research Training Fellowship grant. His project aims to assess the burden of chronic kidney disease in older Irish adults, with a particular emphasis on frailty and quality of life as outcome measures. His other research interest is the relationship between kidney function and neuro-cardiovascular instability using novel haemodynamic measurements.
Mark’s work is also supported by a research bursary from the Irish Nephrology Society.
