Dr. Eamon Laird

Dr. Eamon Laird

Eamon Laird joined the TILDA team in September 2016 and is employed as a Research Fellow. In this role, he will examine the prevalence of deficient nutritional status and the association of health biomarkers (in particular vitamin D, vitamin B12 and Folate) with chronic disease. He obtained his Primary Degree in Nutrition (2008) and Doctorate in Nutrition and Bone health (2012) from the University of Uslter, Coleraine. He was awarded his PhD for his work examining the relationship between vitamin D, bone health and inflammaging. Prior to joining the TILDA team, Eamon was employed by the Trinity, Ulster, Department of Agriculture ageing cohort study (TUDA), a, large study (n 5,186) of older Irish adults (>60 yrs) designed to investigate nutritional factors, related gene-nutrient interactions and a range of health and lifestyle factors in the development of chronic diseases of ageing.

He collaborates with a range of research groups including the Northern Ireland Centre for Food and Health (NICHE), Waterford Institute of Technology on Drug addiction studies and the Central Pathology Laboratory at St James’s hospital, Dublin on geo-mapping nutritional and health biomarkers. His research examining vitamin D status has been widely reported in national print (Irish Independent, Irish Times, The Examiner, The Hearld), and broadcast media (RTE, TV3, 98FM, NewsTalk).
